LED replacement bulbs, for LED home lighting, represent another huge step in lighting technology, and offers an environmentally friendly way to save a huge amount of money on your electric bill every month.
Most people have heard of compact fluorescent bulbs, and many have changed their household bulbs to the CFL technology. When a 60 watt incandescent light bulb can be replaced with a 15 watt CFL bulb, there is
obviously a lot of money to be saved, especially considering that the CFL bulbs also last must longer than their incandescent counterparts. However, CFL bulbs aren’t all good. One problem is that compact fluorescent bulbs contain mercury. We all know that mercury is extremely harmful for the environment, and also toxic for humans, so the disposal of used CFL bulbs becomes a problem. Unfortunately, many people don’t take the necessary precautions when disposing of CFL bulbs.LED-Replacement-Bulbs-Image
LED home lighting on the other hand, is the most environmentally friendly form of lighting other than natural sunlight. LED replacement bulbs are manufactured with no hazardous materials, thus offering a path to save an incredible amount of money on your household lighting, but doing it in a responsible manner. Just how much can be saved by using LED replacement bulbs ? Taking the aforementioned 60 watt incandescent bulb, we said that a CFL bulb will put out the same amount of light while consuming only 15 watts. An LED replacement bulb however, will only consume about 7.5 watts while also putting out the same amount of light!! The LED replacement bulbs will also last much longer then even a CFL bulb.
When you start to figure the amount of money saved over the life of the LED replacement bulb, the numbers become somewhat staggering and make the decision to use LED replacement bulbs an obvious one.
This should put everything into perspective when considering LED replacement bulbs. Throughout the life of a single LED replacement bulb, you would have disposed of up to 50 incandescent bulbs, and even 5 of the mercury-tainted compact fluorescent bulbs, and remember, the LED replacement bulb is only using a fraction of the electricity.
Also, we all know that incandescent bulbs must be handled with care to avoid breakage and to prevent the filament from breaking. CFL bulbs are also subject to getting broken and becoming a hazard. LED replacement bulbs, being a solid-state device, won’t shatter if dropped, and of course, there is no filament to break.
So, are there really any drawbacks to using LED home lighting ? Only one – presently is somewhat expensive, but the cost should not be prohibitive. Even at today’s higher prices, you can still realize savings of hundreds of dollars per bulb over the life of the bulb, so it really shouldn’t even be a choice. As the manufacturing becomes less expensive though, the savings will be even greater.
Even if you have to replace one incandescent or compact fluorescent light bulb at a time, LED home lighting should be in your eco-friendly plan.
